Lynn Legal Advocate

Youth Outreach Educator


Position Title: Lynn Legal Advocate
Effective Date: 08/12/2008
Team: Direct Service Team
Reports To: Legal Advocate Coordinator
Position Summary:

This full-time position works in the District Courts providing assistance to victims seeking restraining orders with a focus on Lynn District Court. The advocate provides crisis intervention, advocacy and referral services to victims of abuse in our Lynn Office. The advocate meets monthly with the legal advocate team and collaborates with the Legal Advocate Coordinator.  The advocate attends monthly High Risk meeting as needed to refer cases.

Position Experience:

Commitment/experience working with victims of domestic violence 
Knowledge of domestic violence and crisis intervention
Knowledge of the restraining order process
Excellent oral, written and public speaking skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Bilingual/Bicultural preferred

Position Details:
  • Assist clients in Lynn District court through the 209A process
  • Collaborates with Victim Witness Advocates to provide support to victims throughout the criminal case
  • Provide support to victims of criminal complaints as needed.
  • Attend legal advocate team meetings
  • Provide follow-up telephone calls and services to victims as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention, advocacy and referral services to victims of abuse.
  • Completes statistical paper work for each client contact
  • Provides community outreach to the community of Lynn and surrounding cities and towns
  • Participate in training new hotline volunteers
  • Participates in after-hours on-call rotation
  • Attends regular supervision, team meetings and all staff meetings
  • Participates in achieving team goals
  • Puts into practice workplace and team values
  • Able to flex hours to meet position responsibilities
  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Legal Coordinator

Position Title: Youth Outreach Educator
Effective Date: 12/01/2007
Team: Outreach and Education
Reports To: Director of Education and Outreach
Position Summary: Full Time. This full-time position provides prevention and intervention services to youth in the 23 cities and towns of HAWC’s service area. The Youth Outreach Program educates youth to prevent violence both in local schools and in the community. The program strives to address gender-based violence within an anti-oppression context through educational outreach and activities that empower youth to make healthy choices and to become peer education leaders.
Position Experience:
  • Commitment to and experience in working with teens
  • Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience in community organizing
  • Experience facilitating groups
  • Social justice/social change approach to understanding domestic violence
  • Commitment to promoting cultural competence which reflects diversity in sexual orientation, race, class, ethnicity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelors degree required
  • Bilingual/Bicultural preferred
Position Details:
  • Develop and present violence prevention curriculum to elementary, middle and high school students
  • Build in-school partnerships with School Resource Officers, Guidance Department, and Health Educators
  • Develop and implement all-school anti-violence training and protocol for teachers, counselors and parents
  • Facilitate weekly in-school leadership groups for male and female students
  • Conduct community outreach and training on inter-related topics such as domestic violence, dating violence, gang activity, school violence, bullying and teasing
  • Create and facilitate innovative after-school and summer programs for youth
  • Provide orientation, training, support and mentor new youth outreach staff as needed
  • Participate in training new volunteers
  • Provide individual advocacy for youth in abusive relationships
  • Participate in after-hours On-Call
  • Attend regular supervision, Team meetings and all staff meetings
  • Put into practice workplace and team values
  • Work toward achieving team goals
  • Able to flex hours to meet position responsibilities
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required
