Community Education

HAWC has developed community collaborations in the 23 cities and towns that we serve.

Collaborative relationships exist with substance abuse and mental health programs, job training, housing, and child protective and advocacy services.

HAWC is well aware that one agency cannot provide all of the help battered individuals and their children need. Over the past year, HAWC staff members provided education and training programs that resulted in reaching more than 15,000 people in the effort to educate about domestic violence and to insure community investment in providing a full range of services to individuals experiencing domestic violence.

Education programs are conducted for health providers, clergy, teachers and child care workers, police officers and court personnel, as well as many others.

Each training session covers the basic dynamics of domestic violence, the impact on children in the home, community resources, and ways in which to assist victims.

All training sessions and workshops provide comprehensive information in an informal, interactive setting, and are tailored to meet the education needs of the specific audience.
